Juju Smith-Schuster Will Undergo Shoulder Surgery (Update)

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (shoulder) will undergo season-ending surgery this week after dislocating his shoulder in Sunday's win over the Denver Broncos. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network initially reported that the 24-year-old underwent surgery Sunday night, but the surgery has not happened yet. He had his shoulder reduced and underwent an MRI on Sunday, which revealed the Steelers wide receiver needed surgery. Smith Schuster signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Steelers in the offseason, hoping to regain his 2018 form. He finished the 2021 campaign with 15 receptions on 28 targets for 129 yards and a touchdown over five games. Smith-Schuster will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and James Washington (groin) should all see an uptick in targets while Smith-Schuster is sidelined.

Juju Smith-Schuster Undergoes Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (shoulder) underwent surgery on his injured shoulder Sunday and is out for the season. He initially injured his shoulder in Sunday's win over the Broncos. The 24-year-old re-signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Steelers in the offseason, hoping to regain his 2018 form.

Juju Smith-Schuster Expected To Be Placed On Injured Reserve

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (shoulder) is expected to be placed on the injured reserve after tearing a shoulder muscle in Sunday's 27-19 win over the Denver Broncos. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are fearful Smith-Schuster will miss the rest of the season. He did not record a catch before exiting Sunday's game. The 24-year-old will undergo an MRI to confirm the results. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the situation but be prepared to be without the Steelers wideout for the foreseeable future. Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson, and James Washington would all see an uptick in targets while Juju is sidelined. Stay tuned.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Won't Return Against Broncos

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (shoulder) will not to return to Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. He was held without a catch, but did add two carries for six yards. With James Washington out as well, the Steelers will turn to Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson for the remainder of the game, with the team's multiple tight ends chipping in as well.

Oct 10th · 06:19 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Questionable To Return In Week 5

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. He has no receptions, but does have two carries for six yards. Smith-Schuster was immediately taken back to the locker room, so there's a chance this is a fairly significant injury. With James Washington out, the Steelers will rely heavily on Chase Claypool and Diontae Harris, with the team's tight ends likely more involved as well.

Oct 6th · 11:07 PM
Chase Claypool, JuJu Smith-Schuster Limited Wednesday

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers Chase Claypool (hamstring) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs) were both limited in practice on Wednesday. This is mostly notable for Claypool, who sat out of the Week 4 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Unless he suffers a setback later in the week, there's a good chance that Claypool can avoid missing his second straight game this Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Despite missing Week 4, the 23-year-old is second on the team with 29 targets. He's caught 15 of them for 211 yards. Smith-Schuster played 95 percent of the offensive snaps last week with Claypool out but had just two catches on eight targets for 11 yards. His fantasy arrow continues to point down, especially with Claypool on track to return.

Oct 4th · 01:17 AM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Held To Two Catches In Week 4

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster caught just two of eight targets for 11 yards in a 27-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 4. Smith-Schuster presumably played through some pain in his ribs as he departed Week 3 early with the injury, but he still failed to take advantage of the fact that the Steelers were without Chase Claypool (hamstring) in the contest. Smith-Schuster has topped 50 receiving yards just once through four games and his only touchdown came on a three-yard run in Week 2. Trending downwards, the veteran receiver will be a weak flex option in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos.

Oct 2nd · 12:29 AM
Diontae Johnson, JuJu Smith-Schuster Good To Go

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers Diontae Johnson (knee) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs) practiced in full on Friday and were removed from the final injury report for Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers. Johnson injured his knee on the final play in Week 2 and was inactive last weekend, but he should be returning to all fantasy lineups this weekend in a game where the Steelers will likely have to pass to keep up with the Packers offense. The 25-year-old has 22 targets in two games this year and has been quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's favorite target when he's on the field. With Chase Claypool (hamstring) questionable, Johnson and Smith-Schuster could be very busy on Sunday.

Oct 1st · 12:55 AM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Back At Practice Thursday

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs) practiced on a limited basis on Thursday after he missed practice on Wednesday. Smith-Schuster should be able to play against the Green Bay Packers this Sunday unless he suffers a setback on Friday at practice. The 24-year-old put in a really disappointing performance in the Week 3 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, especially with Diontae Johnson missing the game due to injury. Smith-Schuster had just three catches on four targets for 25 yards, good for third among Steelers receivers. It's never a good sign when Ray-Ray McCloud has as many catches and targets as you, and more receiving yards. With Johnson looking ready to return this weekend, Smith-Schuster's fantasy stock is dropping in a Steelers offense that hasn't looked great so far.

Sep 30th · 12:42 AM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Misses Practice Wednesday

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs) did not practice on Wednesday, but head coach Mike Tomlin said, "I anticipate JuJu Smith-Schuster practicing at some point this week." The 24-year-old is considered day-to-day after X-rays came back negative. Barring some sort of practice setback this week, it looks like Smith-Schuster should be able to play in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers. He left the Week 3 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals early and finished with just three catches for 25 yards while playing only 40 percent of the offensive snaps. Diontae Johnson (knee) looks on track to return after missing last week, too, which makes Smith-Schuster an even shakier fantasy asset with Pittsburgh's passing game struggling early on.

Sep 27th · 07:06 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Day-To-Day With Bruised Ribs

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs) is considered day-to-day after undergoing testing on Monday. The injury is being described as "bruised ribs," so it could be something that he can play through. It is still unclear if he will be able to suit up in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers, but fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief considering that he dodged a significant injury. If he is to be held out of the lineup, Chase Claypool would get all the targets he can handle, especially considering Diontae Johnson (knee) could miss another week of action. Claypool was targeted 15 times in Week 3, catching nine passes for 96 yards. If Smith-Schuster and Johnson are held out of the lineup, James Washington could be a sneaky FLEX option in the Steelers high-volume passing attack.

Sep 26th · 07:17 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Ruled Out With Rib Injury

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs) won't return to the team's Week 3 meeting with the Bengals. He finishes the game with three catches for 25 yards. Pittsburgh's offense has struggled in this game. Chase Claypool has five catches right now and should continue to see targets, with James Washington likely to play more over the course of this game.

Sep 23rd · 09:48 AM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Could See A Larger Role In Week 3

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster found the end zone for the first time of the season on a three-yard run in Week 2. Smith-Schuster will look to keep it going in a plus matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3. Cincinnati's defense is allowing the 12th-most fantasy points per game to opposing receivers through two weeks and has already given up three passing touchdowns to the position thus far. Smith-Schuster could also be in store for a larger role as Diontae Johnson (knee) is looking questionable for the game. If Johnson sits, fantasy gamers can treat Smith-Schuster as a low-end WR2. If Johnson does play, Smith-Schuster falls more into the WR3 range.

Sep 19th · 11:21 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Catches Six Balls In Week 2

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster caught six of seven targets for 41 yards and rushed for a three-yard touchdown in a 26-17 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2. Smith-Schuster got off to a fast start, catching four of his passes in the first quarter but he was mostly quiet the rest of the way. The veteran wide receiver also went back to his low depth of target tendencies from 2020 as he averaged just 6.8 yards per catch against the Raiders after a healthy 13.0 in Week 1. His rushing score came on a jet sweep to the right in the second quarter. Smith-Schuster could be in line for a larger role going forward, however, as Diontae Johnson appeared to injure his knee on the final play of the game and needed assistance getting off of the field. Smith-Schuster will be a WR2 against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3 if Johnson can't play.

Sep 16th · 08:36 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster A WR3 In Week 2

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster finished Week 1's matchup against the Buffalo Bills with four catches for 52 yards. More notably, he was able to get going downfield after averaging just 8.6 yards per catch in 2020. Smith-Schuster has a chance to post a productive game in Week 2 as he will face off against the Las Vegas Raiders at home. Las Vegas allowed the 12th-most fantasy points per game to receivers in 2020 and gave up big games to Baltimore Ravens' receivers Marquise Brown and Sammy Watkins in Week 1. Treat Smith-Schuster as a solid WR3 in Week 2.

Sep 12th · 11:06 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Leads Steelers In Receiving In Week 1

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster led his team in receiving in a 23-16 win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. Smith-Schuster caught four of his eight targets for 52 yards in the comeback win while finishing second on the team in targets, behind only Diontae Johnson. Smith-Schuster should continue to land on the WR2/WR3 borderline in most weeks when he doesn't find the end zone, although the Steelers offense should play better than it did against Buffalo in most games. He does draw a plus matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2.

Sep 8th · 02:10 AM
JuJu Smith-Schuster A Flex Play For Week 1

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster opens the 2021 season with a tough road matchup against the Buffalo Bills. The Buffalo pass defense represents a difficult matchup for opposing pass-catchers as they allowed the 29th-fewest fantasy points per game to the wideout position in 2020. Smith-Schuster will run most of his routes against slot cornerback Taron Johnson, meaning he should avoid coverage from lockdown corner Tre'Davious White. While that is a positive, Smith-Schuster is likely to operate as the No. 3 option in the Pittsburgh passing attack this season behind Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson. Treat him as a mid-range WR3 for the season opener.

Aug 22nd · 02:25 AM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Catches Five Balls In Third Preseason Contest

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster caught five of six targets for 39 yards in his team's preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday. On his longest reception of the evening, Smith-Schuster broke several tackles on the way to a 17-yard gain. That being said, he continues to be used only close to the line of scrimmage as his other four catches went for just 22 yards. Smith-Schuster has caught eight balls for 61 yards across his two preseason appearances this preseason, good for just 7.6 yards per catch. The veteran wideout should see plenty of targets but without downfield work, his upside is capped in fantasy leagues heading into the 2021 season.

Jul 31st · 11:42 AM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Mostly Working Out Of The Slot

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has been mostly working out of the slot in the early days of training camp. During the summer, Smith-Schuster lobbied new OC Matt Canada for more outside snaps but it appears that he will remain in the slot, where he spent most of his time during the 2020 season. While playing out of the snap will limit Smith-Schuster's explosive plays, he caught 97 balls and scored nine touchdowns from that spot in the offense last year. Many expect this to be Smith-Schuster's final season with the Steelers as he attempts to cash in on a long-term deal in free agency following the 2021 season, so it is understandable that he wants to put up big numbers. Smith-Schuster is worth drafting as a high-end WR3 in fantasy drafts this season.

Jul 16th · 06:52 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Needs More Explosive Plays In 2021

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster signed a one-year deal to stay with the team that drafted him instead of moving to another city this past offseason. The veteran receiver will be looking to return to his 2018 form in hopes of scoring a lucrative long-term contract following the upcoming season. Despite scoring nine touchdowns, Smith-Schuster set a career-low mark in yards per catch in 2020 at just 8.6. Part of the downtick can be blamed on the offense, which focused on a short, quick passing attack to hide quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's elbow troubles. Roethlisberger's surgically-repaired elbow reportedly feels much better this season, giving hope that Smith-Schuster will see more downfield plays in 2021. Fantasy gamers drafting the wideout will be gambling on several factors coming to fruition, but Smith-Schuster has high-end WR2 upside if everything aligns for him this year.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Signs One-Year Deal With Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers and free-agent wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster agreed upon a one-year, $8 million deal on Friday. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Baltimore Ravens made a significant offer to Smith-Schuster but he chose to take less money to remain in Pittsburgh. The Kansas City Chiefs were also reportedly interested in his services and his name was also rumored to be linked to the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets at various points during the offseason. From Smith-Schuster's perspective, the move doesn't come as a huge surprise as he said all along that he wanted to remain with the team that drafted him in the second round back in 2017. Smith-Schuster's return to Pittsburgh puts a damper on the prospects of Chase Claypool breaking out in 2021, although Claypool should remain an upside flex play. JuJu's upside will be limited in the Steelers offense, much like in 2020, but he should bring a solid floor to the table in PPR leagues. Treat him as a low-end WR/high-end WR3 for next year. Smith-Schuster will be scheduled to become a free agent again after the 2021 season ends.

Mar 18th · 03:59 PM
Jets Talking With JuJu Smith-Schuster

The New York Jets have been having conversations with Pittsburgh Steelers free-agent wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, according to sources. The Jets may not be done adding playmakers to their offense after adding wide receiver Corey Davis several days ago. Quarterback Sam Darnold was Smith-Schuster's QB in college at USC. While the Steelers aren't ruling out a return for the 24-year-old, it's likely that he's headed elsewhere in free agency. If he signs with the Jets, he could operate as the primary slot receiver, which would be bad news for veteran Jamison Crowder. Smith-Schuster broke out in his sophomore season in 2018 (111-1,426-7) but battled injury in 2019 and had 97 receptions for 831 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns in 2020. He'd immediately become New York's No. 1 receiver, although Darnold would be an obvious downgrade from Ben Roethlisberger.

Mar 15th · 09:44 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Likely To Leave Steelers?

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has been telling teammates that he's "likely to head elsewhere for the next portion of his career." He also suggested on his Twitter account on Sunday that leaving Pittsburgh is a real possibility. The fourth-year receiver is 24 years old and had a 97-catch, nine-touchdown season in 2020, so he won't have a shortage of suitors on the open market. The Steelers are certainly interested in bringing Smith-Schuster back, but they don't have much salary cap flexibility, even after restructuring quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's deal. The Las Vegas Raiders have been rumored to be very interested in the 24-year-old wideout. Smith-Schuster still has a very high fantasy ceiling, even if he departs in free agency.

Mar 9th · 10:49 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Heads Toward Free Agency

Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is officially set to become a free agent after the Pittsburgh Steelers chose not to use their franchise tag on the wideout Tuesday. Smith-Schuster is coming off having hauled in a career-high nine touchdowns during 2020, hauling in 97 receptions all while sharing targets in a crowded Pittsburgh WR corps. Should Smith-Schuster sign elsewhere, Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson would see a significant increase in season-long appeal for '21, particularly with the return of Ben Roethlisberger under center. With Chris Godwin and Allen Robinson having been franchise tagged, WR-hungry squads figure to have their attention funneled in the direction of Smith-Schuster, who has proven to be both an adept blocker and durable talent out wide during his first four professional seasons.

Feb 24th · 04:19 PM
JuJu Smith-Schuster Wants To Stay In Pittsburgh

In an interview with TMZ.com, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster stated that he wants to remain with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The impending free-agent said, "At the end of the day, I want to have my legacy in Pittsburgh and retire there. I don't want to leave." While Smith-Schuster doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get out of town, it is worth noting that the Steelers are already over the salary cap and will have a hard time finding room to keep him around. Despite JuJu's sentiments toward Pittsburgh, it is more likely that he will be wearing a different uniform for the 2021 season while the Steelers move forward with Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool as their top two wideouts.

Are NFL Trade Rumor Covered in the Player News?
Yes! As you can see from this Julio Jones write up from his player page, we updated his news section as soon as the news broke.
“The Atlanta Falcons are not expected to trade quarterback Matt Ryan this offseason, according to sources. “The Falcons have not had any trade conversations about Ryan or their star wide receiver Julio Jones. And every expectation is both players are going to be on the roster in 2021,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said. New head coach Arthur Smith plans to run a similar offense to the one Kyle Shanahan used when Ryan won MVP in 2016. Atlanta would be on the hook for more than $44 million in dead money in 2021 if they traded Ryan before June 1. Atlanta may decide to take Ryan’s heir-apparent at No. 4 overall in the draft, but the 35-year-old signal-caller is expected to stay put for at least another season. Ryan and Jones got it going to end the regular season and could be in line for bounce-back campaigns under Smith in 2021. Consider Ryan a midrange QB1 heading into next season.”
