Tennis DFS Picks Today: Miami Open Round 1 DraftKings Fantasy Tennis Picks | Ana Konjuh 3/22/22
Most of the tennis world is focused on Miami as both men’s and women’s side take to the hard courts in Florida. DraftKings Tennis contests are posted and the main prize of $10,000 is up for grabs. There are some solid GPPs to get into with 12 matches to make our tennis DFS picks from. Last week in California, we saw some big names fall early, which is nothing new for tennis DFS but always an unwelcome sight to lineups. With all of the matches on today’s slate coming from the WTA and no player ranked higher than 47th, it should be a wide-open tournament so let’s make some tennis DFS picks today.

DraftKings Fantasy Tennis DFS Picks Today
Top Tennis Pick Today: Ana Konjuh ($7,900)
Opponent: Elena Gabriela Ruse
Very often the cheapest favorite is always a popular play on any tennis DFS slate because of the win equity, but that is not the case here for Ana Konjuh, of Croatia. She comes in a near toss-up (-122) facing World No. 57 Elena Gabriela Ruse as both have been up and down all year with Ruse being the only one stringing together more than three wins. Konjuh and Ruse are also quite similar for their careers on hard surfaces, but Konjuh has had much more success at the highest level with 58 wins (50 Losses) while Ruse has just seven in 18 matches when facing higher competition.
Konjuh’s game is built for hard courts with powerful shots and an ace percentage over 6% for her career. If she can harness that service game and avoid double-faults she’ll have zero issues dispatching Ruse in this one.
Fade Pick: Yulia Putintseva ($11,000)
Opponent: Nastasja Mariana Schunk
With no player higher in the tennis DFS projections, Yulia Putintseva will also carry the highest ownership, and whether or not to play Putintseva is honestly an easier decision than one would think. Putintseva, like many in the WTA, has always been up and down, but in 2022 she has mainly been down with just three wins in seven matches this year — and losses in three of her last four. Her opponent is 243rd-ranked Nastasja Mariana Schunk from Germany, who has played one WTA match in her career, losing in straight sets to Belinda Bencic. That said, she has been in good form on the ITF reaching the Finals, Quarters, and Semi’s in her last three events.
On a slate that is certain to have plenty of upsets and all kinds of value fitting Putintseva will be no problem which is why at her expensive tag she’s a no-go in tournaments unless you’re playing 150, but still makes for a great cash play with her solid tennis DFS projection and safety of ownership.
Low-Owned Tennis Pick Today: Magda Linette ($6,400)
Opponent: Qinwen Zheng
Only three players are lesser-owned than the seasoned vet, and still 62nd-ranked, Magda Linette facing No. 72 Qinwen Zheng. Linette is just 3-5 (W-L) on the year on hard courts though it is arguably her favorite surface with 169 career victories. Zheng’s favorable number comes from her solid 2022, which has seen her win 16 of 21 matches on hard courts but in WTA level events she is just 6-5 with some serious issues with double faults at 9.1%.
Much of this is play to do with ownership but also Linette does carry some stability and upside for tennis DFS with Zheng’s issues in her service game when the pressure amps up. On a slate loaded with players ranked well outside the top 100 but drawing far more ownership it’s unquestionably a plus value move to get over the field on a far more proven commodity such as Linette here under 20% owned.
