Darren Waller far surpassed his fantasy rankings last season as the tight end number five off of the board. Darren Waller’s Production in 2020
Last season Waller led all tight ends in targets and receptions. Having 146 targets (9.1 p/g) and 107 receptions (6.7 p/g). His target share was so high that 28% of the time the ball came out of Derek Carr or Marcus Mariota’s hands, it went to Waller. He fell short of number one in the receiving yards category, with 1,195 receiving yards (74.7 p/g), ranking second. In the touchdown category, he ranked 3rd with 9 total touchdowns on the season. It is safe to say that Waller was pretty good last year.
Raiders Offseason Changes
The offseason for the Raiders is what could only be described as confusing. Instead of trying to better the offensive line, the Raiders elected to cut a few players. After making the offensive line worse, they decided to sign Kenyan Drake. While the offensive line will be fine and dandy, this occurrence brings into question the management of the Raiders. The Raiders also got rid of their best wide receiver in Nelson Agholor and replaced him with John Brown. This shows that this should be a similar offense to 2020, in which Waller was dominant.

Darren Waller is the only tight end that I can see passing up Travis Kelce and becoming the tight end number one in fantasy football. While the Raiders certainly do not have the passing attack of the Chiefs, it does not matter if Waller continues to reign supreme as the main target in Vegas. With the additions the team brought in, there does not appear to be a threat at all to Waller’s immense target share. Last season Waller had 63 more targets than Nelson Agholor, who ranked second on the team. Waller could very easily finish as the number one tight end in the NFL in targets. To me, Darren Waller is a complete steal in the third round at a position with such high volatility. Do not be surprised if Waller’s average draft position continues to rise as draft season emerges.
