Early-Slate MLB DFS Picks
New York Yankees at RHP Tanner Roark – 6.0 implied runs
The Yankees are all getting healthy and firing on all cylinders right now. Before losing Sunday night in Boston, they were on a 10-game winning streak, averaging 8.5 runs per game. On Monday it did not go completely as planned as Matt Shoemaker and T.J. Zeuch combined for 6.1 innings allowing just two runs — though they tallied a single strikeout between them.
At this point Roark barely qualifies as an innings eater, and he has been giving up home runs at an alarming rate. His 14 allowed in 39.1 innings would work out to 90 in a 200-inning season, which is about double the usual league leader.
Just like yesterday, it is truly hard to go wrong with the New York batsmen, as their projected lineup has a collective .240 ISO against righties and a .249 ISO against lefties since the beginning of last season. Only D.J. LeMahieu is under a .200 ISO during that stretch against fellow righties, and he is still elite with a .197 ISO.

Main-Slate MLB DFS Picks
Minnesota Twins vs. LHP Tarik Skubal – 5.4 implied runs
Rookie 23-year-old Skubal has struggled this season. However, like most youngsters, he is making the leap from just 42.1 AA seasons straight to The Show in the absence of minor league games. The strikeouts have been there for the rookie southpaw with 25 in 23.1 innings, but that has been the only bright spot.
The Twins are now back to full strength, which means lefty crushers Miguel Sano, Josh Donaldson, Nelson Cruz, Mitch Garver and Byron Buxton should all be in the top half of the order. Their prices are actually quite palatable across the DFS sites, and while they are likely to be heavy chalk, there are plenty of other ways we can differentiate our lineups with 22 teams in action.
Late-Slate MLB DFS Picks
San Francisco Giants vs. LHP Kyle Freeland – 4.4 implied runs
While it is going to be in the upper-50s for most of this game, I am still looking at the Giants who are cheap on DraftKings and essentially “buy one get one free” on FanDuel. It needs to be pointed out that Freeland has been decent this season with a 3.75 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and just seven home runs allowed in 62.1 innings. However, please do not lose sight of the back that the lefty was banished to the minors for six starts last year, allowing an 8.80 ERA with a 1.888 WHIP.
On the main-slate focusing on some duos or one-offs here as discounted differentiation plays is the savvy strategy. Wilmer Flores, Evan Longoria and Austin Slater are the trio to target. Darin Ruf is cheap and will probably bat in the third or fourth hole, but just know he is a pinch-hit risk when a righty reliever comes into the game.
